Some Great Software for Learning Some Great Rock Guitar Songs

When you run across something cool, you want to let people know about it. I used to be the teenager in my basement, banging my head against the wall trying to learn that Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck lick.

Of course that was back in the day of spinning an LP over and over and over again trying to get the solo down. If you were lucky you had a turntable that would play 161/2 speed (half speed) to make it easier.

Well, those days are long gone of course...thank God. I first bought a piece of software that would let you slow down mps and wavs, but it never seemed to jive with my setup or something. It got pretty good reviews, but I was never impressed.

Well, I ran across Musicnotes.com and their 'Guitar Guru' software and song sossions. It's awesome!! If you haven't seen it yet, they have downloadable (free) software that you get, and then you can buy which ever songs that you want to learn.

The on-screen guitar fretboard is a great way to learn. You can slow the song down to whatever speed you need to learn comfortably. You can set those hard, fast passages to loop over and over until you've got them under your fingers. You can even select different guitar fretboards to display.

Also, the songs aren't some half-assed versions. These tunes can be synced with the CD versions!! Wanna talk about the real thing ? I can't say enough about Musicnotes or the Guitar Guru software. They've got a very decent catalog of songs to chooses from, and seem to have quite a few more every time I check back.

If you're into classic rock like...Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, Eagles and Lynard Skynard, just to name a few, you'll love it there. Also, they have the classic stuff, but plenty of new stuff too.

The Guitar Guru stuff is only part of what they offer though. They have sheet music, books, tons of stuff for the guitar, piano, voice and who knows what else.

Give them a look, you won't be sorry. Oh, make sure you download the Guitar Guru software and demo a song, it's way cool.
