[Please see our extensive listing of used Jackson guitars following this brief history of the brand.]
Jackson Guitars, founded by Grover Jackson in 1980, is a renowned brand of electric guitars.
After having obtained control of Charvel's Guitar Repair, and subsequently control of the brand, Jackson began producing electric guitars under the Jackson brand name, after being approached by the great metal/rock guitarist, Randy Rhoads. The first guitar to go into production was known as the Concorde, which was basically a Flying V. Set apart by it's notable pointed headstock (see photo) was it's inception, Jackson guitars were extremely popular in the 1980s Heavy Metal heyday, and continue to have a good following today.
Some popular early Jackson models were the Soloist, Kelly, and King V, all of which remain icons of the Jackson brand.
In the 1990s, with musical trends changing, Jackson, along with most manufacturers, began producing cheap Asian-made versions of theor most popular models in an effort to attractive more low-end buyers.
In 2002, Jackson/Charvel was bought bby Fender Musical Instrument Corporation, and was moved to it's factory in Corona, California.
From the beginning, Jackson guitars have been known for their slender and elegant designs. They have aggressive motifs that have always been very popular with metal and rock musicians.
