Peavey Electronics is still privately owned, although it has grown massively after being started by Hartley Peavey in 1965 in his own basement. Peavey had built his first amplifier in 1957, and the rest as they say, is history.
Peavey now has 33 manufacturing facilities spread across North America, Europe and Asia. 18 of these facilities are located in Mississippi, Peavey's home state. Jointly, they comprise 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing/assembly area. Most of Peavey's products are manufactured in the United State, the United Kingdom, and the Far East. They are then distributed to 136 countries worldwide.
They have 130 patents, and 2000 product designs.
Although well known for amplifiers and other musical equipment, Peavey has made, and continues to make good quality guitars. They have had such well known musical artists like Eddie Van Halen, Gary Rossington and Ted Nugent, just to name a few, endorse their products. The Peavey EVH5150 guitar amplifier, built for Eddie Van Halen was one of Peavey's most popular products.
Peavey builds acoustic, bass and electric guitars. The list of electric guitars manufactured by Peavey is a long one.
The Peavey EVH Wolfgang, and later the HP Special are Eddie Van Halen models.
